Community Relations

Dear FVJNers,

The following describes an educational workshop to provide education on Jewish culture and the Jewish holiday calendar for non-Jewish educators and administrators in your school district. Our Jewish families in the district will benefit from those educators and administrators broadening their understanding of Judaism and of the Jewish calendar. The educators and administrators will benefit not only from the knowledge they receive, but also by receiving continuing education credits for attending the workshop.

Recently, I presented our district’s superintendent with the attached flyer and letters. The flyers promote the course on Jewish culture for secular educators which carries 3 CPDU credits. (The course is given by the reform synagogue Congregation Etz Chaim in Lombard.) Our superintendent was thankful to have this information now so both his administrators and teachers can plan their continuing professional education for this coming year.

Cultural awareness promotes tolerance. When the schools, including our local public and private schools, know about our religious perspective, they can take it into consideration when scheduling activities and assignments. I therefore encourage you to pass this flyer and letters to appropriate educators and administrators in your school district. If you would like me to send them for you, let me know and I’ll be happy to do so.
